Questions, occasionally asked
What is Chronicle43?
Chronicle43 is a hand-curated web directory: a catalogue of 833 websites organised across 22 subject sections. Each entry has been reviewed before acceptance and is maintained as part of an ongoing index of the open web.
Is it free to list my site?
Yes. Submission is free, and browsing the index is free. There is no paid placement—every site in Chronicle43 earned its position by meeting the same plain curatorial criteria.
How are sites organised in the catalogue?
Sites are filed under one of 22 subject sections, from Automotive & Parts Holdings and Medical Clinics & Wellness Care to Software & Technology Ventures and Journeys & Lodging Providers. Sites that do not fit a named section are filed in the Open Collection.
How do I submit a site?
Use the Add a Site form. Select the section that best fits your site, enter the URL, provide a plain description of what the site does, and submit. A curator will review the entry before it appears in the index.
How long does review take?
Review times vary. Submissions are assessed in the order they are received. You will not receive a notification—if the site meets the criteria it will appear in the catalogue; if it does not, it will be set aside without further correspondence.
What happens if my site goes offline?
Entries are checked periodically. Sites that are no longer live, that have changed their purpose materially, or whose descriptions have become inaccurate are removed at the next review. The index is kept current, not frozen.
Can I suggest a different section for my listing?
Section assignment is made by the curators at the time of review. If you believe your site has been filed in the wrong section, you may resubmit with a note; the curator will consider the alternative and refile if appropriate.
